Question by Indija: My cat is sneezing and eating my dog’s food!?
My cat has been sneezing for 6 days now. I’m really worried. I just took him to the vet the other week and I’m still paying off a debt to the vet from my other cat that recently passed. Add in the fact that I am moving, I really don’t have any extra money whatsoever. Otherwise I would take him to the vet right away. He’s 11 years old and he’s an indoor cat and he’s acting normal aside from the sneezing. He’s only been in contact with my other cat who is also an indoor cat. I’m worried that he might have a URI. The only other thing I can think of is 9 days ago I switched my cat’s food to Felidae. I used to feed him “grocery store brands” and he’s never had problems switching between foods before. I even mixed his old food with the new food as many people suggest. Today, though, I caught him eating my dog’s food and he’s never done that before. So I am wondering if it’s possible that there is a connection here? Could it be the food that is making him sneeze?
He only ate the dog food once and I know cats shouldn’t eat dog food. That’s why I was concerned when I caught him eating it. I’ve never seen him do that before.

Can allergies just come up out of nowhere? He’s never had allergies before and we live in an apartment so there isn’t anything that I can think of that would give him allergies.

Over time cats that eat dog food can become malnutrition and it could also affect the heart of the cat.
